Hello again,

We are fast approaching half term and we are getting loads in!

I would like to start with a prayer linked to our learning during Black History month:

God, help us to value diversity beyond variety. Help us value diversity with a vision for a progressive future that acknowledges our strength together as well as the power, creativity, ideas, and part that we all bring when we are all welcome – to come to the table and taste and see that the Lord is good.

Amen

English- this week, we have continued to look at the book, ‘The Wisp’. We have written our own versions based on the wisp- a story of hope. Some have kept to the refugee theme, some have linked our black history learning and the wisp visits slaves of the past telling them that one day they will be free, some have linked to our current climate and hope during lockdown, we have had hospital stays, poverty and an orphan. They should be SO proud of their writing, I know I am. Below is the link I included last week, which is a fantastic resource to help understand the grammar taught in school.

Maths- we have continued to look at worded problems and the best way to attack them, in particular working problems, where the answer is given and you have to work out the starting number. We found this were a lot easier when we attacked in small chunks- starting what with we knew- the answer.

Science- we  looked at how the circulatory system is linked to our digestive system and how water and nutrients are transported around our body.

Black History Month- This week, we learnt about the Bristol bus boycott, which was similar to the famous Rosa Parks, and shed a light on the racism that was going on in Britain.

I recently spoke to the BLM Herts who had posted a brilliant video about black culture within the music industry and asked for permission to share and they sent me a youtube link

This is part of your homework to watch and listen to music of black origin.

Topic-

We looked at evacuation and why it was necessary for this to happen. We looked at the things children be required to take and the people who were also evacuated along with children. We also learnt many families were too poor to provide the minimum things to take with them We begun to look at rationing, which will be on-going into next week.

Homework for this week:

Aut wk 7

Have a fabulous weekend, lots of love,

Mrs O’Dowd
